GAY BLOG WINNER ANNOUNCED
The 2009 SA Blog Awards has revealed the winner in the best gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) blog category.
The winners in the annual awards were announced on Friday night at a ceremony in Cape Town.
The champion in the GLBT category was ramblerclive.blogspot.com – a blog by journalist and editor of Joburg Style magazine Clive Vanderwagen.
The blog is described as the “Ramblings of a Jozi man – life, love and everything in-between…”
“I’m very pleased,” said Vanderwagen. “It’s really nice that gay blogs have been acknowledged. The awards give exposure to gay people and their blogs and I was chuffed to be included on the list.”
He said that he started his blog in August last year because “although I write all day, it’s on specific topics for work, and I wanted to find my own voice”.
According to Vanderwagen, who has also written for Mambaonline, his blog is a mix of serious topics – such as his perspective on gay Christians – and lighter, more humorous everyday personal blogging.
The runners-up included warfare-delightful-dreary-life.blogspot.com, by Pierre le Roux; whose writing has also been featured on Mambaonnline.com.
The SA Blog Awards aims to promote, showcase and reward South Africa’s top bloggers and is now in its fifth year. Winners are selected by the public through online voting. All the nominated blogs are written by South Africans or people living in the country.

SA Blog Awards. I think it’s great that a GLBT category have been included in this year’s awards. Some international Blog Awards have negated to include us.
The blogging phenomena also seem to be catching on in SA, but the majority of blogging comes from the USA.
I hope South Africans also start appreciating this new form of online entertainment, as it is almost like reality tv but only on the net and in written form – anonymously peeking into someone else’s life.
