URUGUAY SET TO LEGALISE GAY ADOPTION

Advertorial

It’s been reported that a bill to legalise gay adoption has been passed by Uruguay’s House of Representatives.

The bill was passed with 40 votes for and 13 votes against on Thursday last week.

The legislation now goes before the Senate for a final vote in September, where it is expected to pass despite considerable opposition from the Roman Catholic Church.

This would make Uruguay the first South American country to legalise gay adoption.

Uruguay is seen as one of the most progressive countries on gay rights in the region and has already legalised same-sex unions and, in May, opened up military service to gays and lesbians.
