The organisers behind the Copenhagen 2009 Outgames (CHP2009) have announced that the event has declared a profit of 164,000 Euros.
According to the board of directors of the Gay and Lesbian International Sports Association (GLISA), this financial success continues the profitability of previous Outgames held in Melbourne, Australia and Calgary, Canada.
“The profits from the CHP2009 Outgames will be allocated to charitable GLBT sports, cultural, and human rights related purposes in accordance with the articles of the association”, said Per Hermansen, CHP2009 Finance Director.
According to organisers, the games, which took place over nine days in July and August last year, featured 5,500 participants from 92 countries, while more than 200,000 tourists and Copenhageners attended the various sporting and cultural events.
The next Continental Outgames will be held in 2011 in Wellington, New Zealand and Vancouver, Canada. The 3rd World Outgames will be held in Antwerp, Belgium in 2013.
