Uganda’s First Lady, Janet Museveni, has described, in a speech to young people, homosexuality as an abomination and claimed that Ugandans only engage in gay sex because they are being paid to do so.

Museveni (62), who is married to President Yoweri Museveni, made the comments at the opening of the National Youth Convention at Makerere University.

“In God’s word, homosexuality attracts a curse, but now people are engaging in it and saying they are created that way. It is for money. The devil is stoking fires to destroy our nation and those taking advantage are doing so because our people are poor,” she said, reports New Vision.

“You know that you will lose everything else when you lose your soul,” added Museveni, who has been First Lady since May 1986.

Her husband, President Museveni, last year accused European homosexuals of “recruiting” young people in Africa and urged the country’s youth to stand firm against them.

In the face of massive international condemnation he has publicly distanced himself from the country’s controversial pending Anti-Homosexuality Bill which seeks to impose the death penalty in certain cases of “homosexual behaviour”.
