South African athletics star and international model Oscar Pistorius has won heat magazine’s annual Hot 100 poll, beating international celebrities. According to heat, a total of 635 913 votes were received in the poll.

“It’s really cool! It caught me totally off-guard and I was really surprised. It’s an honour as I regard heat to be an amazing magazine. If I had one word to describe my reaction, I’d say gob-smacked!” commented Pretorius on winning the prestigious title.

Pretorius, who was a finalist in Mambaonline’s Sexiest Man Survey in 2010, said that he believes that winning the heat Hot 100 title will have a positive impact on his life and career.

“It definitely adds more weight to the different projects I’m involved in. The title also gives me more credibility when it comes to my involvement in charitable causes.”

Melinda Shaw, editor in chief of heat magazine, commented: “What other celeb can boast becoming an international model, with that superhot Thierry Mugler A*Men campaign, and making history as the first disabled athlete to qualify for the Olympic Games?”

The highest ranking international celebrity in this year’s poll was Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, who claimed the runner-up spot.

South Africa’s favourite celebrities are those who have mastered their acting skills, with almost half (48%) of the top 100 either starring in movies or television shows. Musicians in turn made up 24% of the top 100, while heat readers voted 12% of models and reality TV stars onto the sought-after list. A whopping 16% of sports stars also featured this year.
