George Michael’s new boyfriend has denied reports that the singer is near death after being hospitalised for pneumonia.

The 48-year-old star was placed in intensive care at Vienna’s AKH General Hospital last week after his condition deteriorated just hours before he was set to perform.

Speaking to Britain’s Daily Star, Lebanese-born Fadi Fawaz, who has been described as Michael’s new lover, rejected speculation that the performer had taken a turn for the worst.

When asked bluntly if Michael was going to die, Fawaz, reported to be at the star’s beside, replied: “No. He is improving every day.

“There is nothing to be concerned about. He is doing fine. We are very happy. He is doing extremely well and coming back from everything. We are very pleased.”

The Sun tabloid had earlier claimed that Michael had developed dangerous complications that often prove to be fatal.

It’s been reported that doctors have placed him on a high-tech R1.3 million bed that assists patients with severe pneumonia who are unable to move.

Michael was forced to cancel the remaining dates of his Symphonica tour due to the illness.

An ear, nose and throat specialist told the Daily Mail that the illness and spending a protracted period of time on a respirator could, in a worst case scenario, permanently affect his singing voice.
