The long-rumoured sexual relationship between rock icons Mick Jagger and David Bowie has been given more credence by a new book.

Author Christopher Andersen claims in his biography of the Rolling Stones front man, Mick: The Wild Life and Mad Genius of Jagger, that the two men had a long and intimate affair.

According to the book, the rumours were confirmed by friends and family members of the stars.

Jagger and Bowie first met in 1973 in the midst of the pansexual glam-rock era and their relationship apparently soon became a physical one.

In the book, Bowie’s then wife Angie recounts coming home and finding a naked Bowie and Jagger sleeping in bed together.

“While it was not a case of coitus interrupts, I felt absolutely dead certain that they’d been screwing,” said Angie. “It was so obvious, in fact, that I never even considered the possibility that they hadn’t been screwing.”

Ava Cherry, a backup singer who once lived with the Bowies, is reported as having told a friend: “Mick and David were really sexually obsessed with each other. Even though I was in bed with them many times, I ended up just watching them have sex.”

She revealed that the relationship was more than sexual, saying that they were “very close” and “practically lived together for several months”.

Bebe Buell, a former Playboy centrefold and mother with Steven Tyler of Liv Tyler, also told Andersen that she had threesomes with the two men.

In a 1973 interview with Playboy, Bowie said: “It’s true — I am a bisexual.” In 2002, he told Blender: “I had no problem with people knowing I was bisexual. But I had no inclination to hold any banners nor be a representative of any group of people.”

After a number of marriages, Jagger (68) is currently dating fashion designer L’Wren Scott. Bowie (65) is now married to Somali model and actress Iman.

Neither have ever confirmed that they had an affair with one another.
