Mr Gay South Africa Steve Williams and a group of drag divas have helped make life a little better for people in the Coronation Park informal settlement during the cold Gauteng winter months.

Last Thursday, Williams and Shannon Brown, Levine Dolcevita, Claudette Lee Cooper, Megan Carreira and Victoria Styles hosted the annual Divas Winter Charity event at Babylon Club in Centurion.

The function was to benefit people living in the settlement. Entry to the show was free provided that attendees donated clothing, blankets or cash at the door.

The show featured performances by Brown, Dolcevita, Lee Cooper, Carreira and Styles, in her debut performance.

Williams addressed the enthusiastic audience, thanking the organisers and sponsors, as well as all the attendees for their generous contributions.

On Saturday, Williams visited the Coronation Park informal settlement to deliver the donations. He said that the people who benefitted from the collection were very grateful for the contributions and said that the items will make a huge difference in their lives.

“This proves that when we all pull together with one goal for a good cause we can make a positive difference in people’s lives,” Williams said, adding, “I want to thank all of you that made a contribution towards this, as it was definitely a worthy cause.”

Williams will represent South Africa at the Mr Gay World competition in Antwerp, Belgium from 31 July to 5 August. Vote for him online via the GuySpy People’s Choice Award at www.guyspy.com/peoples-choice.
