PINK: BEING CALLED LESBIAN A COMPLIMENT
American music superstar Pink has lashed out at homophobic fans who labelled her ‘lesbian’ after she performed with a rainbow flag.
The 33-year-old singer danced on stage at a concert in Melbourne, Australia over the weekend with the flag, a symbol of the LGBT community, around her neck.
The star appeared to grab the flag from a fan in the audience before waving it around on stage.
She was quickly targeted by anti-gay twitter users who believed that calling her a lesbian would be an insult.
A clearly annoyed Pink tweeted in response: “Fun fact: when you twitter me and say ‘you’re a lesbian’ it really doesn’t bother me at all. It’s a compliment. Most of my fav ppl are, so…”
She went on to add: “I’m sure all of you hate filled humans can come up with something a little worse than that?!? Come on- be creative. You have 140 characters!”
Born Alecia Beth Moore, Pink has been a long-time supporter of the LGBT community and of same-sex marriage.
In October last year, she told the Advocate that her gay and lesbian followers have been her most loyal fans.
“I’ve had a lot of my gay boys around, but my gay girls are my rootstalk. They’re my honesty in an ocean of bullshit. I should be gay by the way that I look and the way that I am. I just happen to not be. But it just makes perfect and complete sense,” Pink said.
Pink has sold over 40 million albums and 70 million singles worldwide and has won three Grammy Awards, a Brit Award and five MTV Video Music Awards.
