Katy Perry and Lady Gaga
A chart war is on the cards as Lady Gaga and Katy Perry both debut their new singles after the tracks were leaked on the internet.
On Monday, Gaga officially released Applause, the first single from her upcoming album Artpop.
The track was supposed to only come out on August 19, but overeager fans and hackers forced her hand when demo versions of the song appeared online.
“Lord, in HEAVEN WHY… YOU JUST COULDN’T WAIT,” tweeted an upset Gaga.
As Applause was released early to radio stations and put on sale on iTunes, she added: “DUE TO HACKERS AN ABUNDANCE OF LOW/HIGH QUALITY LEAKS…WE ISSUE THIS POP MUSIC EMERGENCY…”
Katy Perry has also released Roar, the first single from her new Prism album, after it leaked over the weekend.
Although the songs will now be going head to head on the charts, the two stars appear to have laughed off rumours of a feud.
“Wanna grab some shovels and f**k up some hackers? @katyperry excited to hear you ROAR…” Gaga tweeted to Perry.
“@ladygaga what a WILD weekend so far,” Perry responded. “Claws out, paws up! Looking forward to putting my hands up & making them touch too!”
Gaga later wrote: “Let’s make 2013 a year where music/talent/artistry is more important than gossip/fanwars I respect all fanbases 4 their passion.”
