Former x-rated model and Calvin Klein boyfriend Nick Gruber has been accused of homophobic behaviour at a gay party on the popular New York gay hotspot of Fire Island.

The 23-year-old Gruber, who’s been stating in interviews that he’s straight, has been in an on-off relationship with the fashion designer for a number of years.

He’s now incurred the wrath of American gay adult industry producer and star Michael Lucas for his attitude at Lucas’ VIP tent at last weekend’s annual Ascension Party.

According to Lucas, Gruber, who was not invited to his tent, “was being rude to people, shoving two guys away after they bumped into him. I heard him say, ‘Keep your hands away from me! I’m straight!’ So I went over to him, and asked him why he was being so rude.

“He said, ‘I am straight, and I don’t want any gay people to touch me.’ At which point, I told him ‘you’re leaving’. He said, ‘do you know who I am?’ I said, ‘I don’t know, and I don’t even want to know who you think you are.’

“Then someone explained to me that this is the ex boyfriend of Calvin Klein, Nick Gruber, who just ‘came out’ as ‘straight’. So, I guess he came to a gay party to let everyone know he is ‘straight,’” wrote Lucas on Facebook.

Gruber issued an apology to Lucas after the incident, saying it was a “misunderstanding” and that he “definitely overreacted” because he didn’t “really understand how a big party like that worked”.

Lucas in turn responded that the issue was not that he “had mistakenly come to the wrong area of the party”.

The problem, he explained, “was that your behaviour was boorish and loudly homophobic. Screaming that you are straight and that you don’t want gay men to touch you would be unacceptable in any social situation, much less a crowded gay party.

“If you are so defensively straight that you truly can’t bear the idea of gay people touching you, then maybe a crowded gay party might not be the best place for you. Please feel free to write ‘I am straight’ on your forehead and stay home. No one will bother you there, and you won’t bother anyone back,” said Lucas.

In a recent interview with Gawker.com Gruber confirmed that he and Klein once “had true love” but insisted that he is not gay or bisexual and that Klein had been the only man he’d had a relationship with.

“I don’t believe in labels, I believe in what my heart tells me I love. If people say, ‘What are you?’ I say, ‘I’m not gay. I’m straight, but I believe in love,’ he said.

Gruber, who has been previously arrested for assault and drug possession, said in an interview last year that was writing a tell-all book about his affair with Klein. He has denied that to Gawker, saying “I never would do something like that or hurt someone that I love”.
