HUNGER GAMES STAR ‘MOSTLY STRAIGHT’
Sexy Hunger Games actor Josh Hutcherson says that while he’s attracted to women that doesn’t mean he couldn’t fall for a guy in the future.
The 21-year-old spoke about his sexuality in an interview with Out magazine ahead of the release of the new Hunger Games movie, Catching Fire.
“I would probably list myself as mostly straight. Maybe I could say right now I’m 100% straight,” he said. “But who knows? In a fucking year, I could meet a guy and be like, Whoa, I’m attracted to this person.”
He went on to say: “I’ve met guys all the time that I’m like, Damn, that’s a good-looking guy, you know? I’ve never been, like, Oh, I want to kiss that guy. I really love women. But I think defining yourself as 100% anything is kind of near-sighted and close-minded.”
Hutcherson also joked about a possible three way relationship between his character Peeta and Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Gale (Liam Hemsworth) in the Hunger Games movies.
“I know Peeta would be into it, for sure. He’s very sensitive, in touch with his emotions. I think it really might solve a lot of their problems,” said the young American star.
“You know what? I’m going to pitch that idea. Let’s make it a—what’s it called when three people are in a relationship together? A triad? That’ll go over well with Middle America.”
Hutcherson is one of the founders of the LGBT ally organisation Straight But Not Narrow and has been outspoken about equality for LGBT people.
In March last year, Hutcherson made a surprise appearance at a high school in Los Angeles where he spoke to members of the school’s Gay-Straight Alliance club about the importance of being an ally for LGBT young people.
He was also honoured with the 2012 GLAAD Vanguard Award, presented to media professionals who, through their work, have increased the visibility and understanding of the LGBT community.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be released on 22 November in South Africa.
