Watch: Fake Conchita Wurst shocks audience
A “fake” Conchita Wurst has stepped out on stage to surprise a dress rehearsal audience.
Drag superstar Wurst performed at the Melodifestivalen 2015 finals in Stockholm this past Saturday, where Sweden’s contestant for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, Måns Zelmerlöw, was announced.
However, like a true diva, Wurst was running behind schedule and was unable to make it to the dress rehearsal before the show.
That left the production team unable to prepare for the performance, which included sweeping camera swoops and on-stage fireworks. But, as they say, the show must go on.
Executive Producer Christer Björkman stepped up to the plate to help the crew and to entertain the dress rehearsal audience.
He put on a shiny gold frock and a bad wig and, sporting five o’clock shadow and a pair of hairy arms, proceeded to attempt to belt out Wurst’s vocally demanding hit Rise Like a Phoenix. It could have all gone horribly wrong.
So, how did it turn out? Watch below (and do bear in mind that Björkman represented Sweden at the Eurovision contest in 1992).
