The first image of gorgeous actor Taye Diggs in the role of transgender Broadway character Hedwig has been released.
Diggs is set to don makeup, gender-bending outfits and fishnets to replace current Hedwig and the Angry Inch star Darren Criss next month.
“Hedwig is the role of a lifetime,” Diggs told People. “I’m looking forward to being challenged performance-wise on many levels, as well as being humbled by the musical’s social implications”
The 44-year-old star, known for his roles in films like How Stella Got Her Groove Back and TV shows like Private Practice, added: “I also like wearing nail polish.”
In 2006, Diggs played Will Truman’s hunky love interest, James, on the final season of Will & Grace.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is the story of a fictional rock and roll band fronted by a genderqueer East German singer named Hedwig.
First produced off-Broadway in 1998 and made into a cult 2001 film, it recently became a smash Broadway revival, in part thanks to the 2014 lead Neil Patrick Harris.
