Echo Kellum will play Mr Terrific

It’s been announced that the popular TV series Arrow is to feature the first openly gay black superhero on US television.

The news was revealed by Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim at the San Diego ComicCon last month, reports Rolling Out.

He said that actor and comedian Echo Kellum will play the role of Curtis Holt, also known as Mr Terrific.

While the DC comic version of the character isn’t gay, the small screen version will be.

“We’re often asked when we’re going to add another LGBT character to the show and our version of Mr Terrific happens to be gay for anyone that cares about that kind of stuff,” said Guggenheim in a statement.

Mr Terrific will be appear as a recurring character in the upcoming fourth season of Arrow.

He joins the bisexual Sara Lance, also known as Canary (played by Caity Lotz), in representing the LGBT community on the show.

Kellum is best known for his roles in the sitcoms Ben and Kate and Sean Saves the World.
