UK boyband singer says he loves men & women – but not labels
English singer George Shelley has come out as having had relationships with both men and women.
The 22-year-old member of Union J, who was also recently the runner-up in the jungle reality competition I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, opened up about his sexuality in an emotional YouTube video.
George told his fans that he had been on a “personal journey” since spending time in the jungle, which gave him an opportunity to reflect on what’s important and the desire to start 2016 with a clean slate.
“What is important to me is that I can be myself. I don’t feel that I should hide anything,” he said.
“I’ve been reading a lot of speculation online as to whether I’m straight or gay or bi and it’s all these labels. It’s a little bit old-fashioned. And that’s why I’m not going to label it myself.”
George continued: “I’ve had girlfriends that I’ve loved… but I’ve also had boyfriends… and I just wanted you to know that whether I decide to be with a girl next or be with a guy next that’s because I love them. And it shouldn’t be a big deal.
“I’ve not changed, I’m still me. I’m still the same person I’ve always been… I’m just becoming a little less scared of being myself.”
George was previously romantically linked to former The X Factor singer Ella Henderson. His band, Union J, came fourth in the 2012 series of the British talent competition.
