Kanana to celebrate first gay Pride
The first annual Kanana Gay Pride is taking place in the North West province township, near Orkney, on Saturday 1 October.
According to one of the organisers, Mpho Buntse, the event “seeks to create visibility and to create awareness amongst the community of Kanana” about LGBTI people and issues.
He noted that Kanana is situated in a region that has recently experienced a spate of violent attacks against LGBTI individuals.
The march, starting at 1pm, will be followed by a formal programme, featuring a keynote address by Buntse as well as messages of support from other stakeholders
There will also be a concert with performances by the likes of Muzi Zuma, DJ Shordy Skills and others. An after party will be held at Swingles.
Kanana Gay Pride 2016 will start at 10am at the Mokati Community Hall. For more information, visit the Kanana Lgbti+ Facebook page.
It would be nice to hold it,first ever in our township, and it would bring more impact in our society show that we care and love one other, and it’s vital to our society knowing lgbti is alive with the community.
