Nakhane stuns with debut UK live TV performance (Watch)

Advertorial

South African musician and actor Nakhane made his debut UK live TV performance on one of Britain’s biggest music shows, Later… with Jools Holland, on the BBC this past Tuesday.

Nakhane performed Clairvoyant, from his latest Indie genre studio album, You Will Not Die, which was released in March this year. Wearing a rich red suit with a touch of red makeup around his eyes, the outfit was described as paying tribute to his cover album.

Nakhane recently starred in the controversial South African movie, Inxeba, which caused a lot of social havoc and resulted in him and his family receiving death threats, predominantly from the Xhosa community.

The gay love story was reclassified as porn by the South African Film and Publication Board but the reclassification was later overturned and the film was returned to screen in cinemas.

The film scooped the most awards (6) at the 2018 South African Film and Television Awards, including Best Feature Film. Nakhane was also named Best Actor at the award ceremony.

Tuesday’s the Later… with Jools Holland broadcast featured performances by Nile Rodgers and Chic, with special guests, Mura Masa and Nakhane.

Nakhane’s  bold approach in challenging South Africa’s mainstream music culture has gained him prominence within and outside the South African LGBT community. His first album, Brave Confusion, scored him a South African Music Award in the Best Alternative Album category back in 2014.
