On a rainy 28th of October 2023, the Buffalo City metro in the Eastern Cape hosted its inaugural Buffalo City Pride March in East London, a beacon of unity for the diverse LGBTIQ+ community and its allies in the region.
Despite concerns about unfavourable weather conditions, the Pride march attracted a turnout of approximately 160 participants. This vibrant event offered an array of activities that revolved around the march’s core themes, embracing dance, storytelling, music, face-painting, networking, information sharing, advice, and uplifting speeches.
The essence of the Buffalo City Pride March was to create a focal point that addressed a spectrum of issues ranging from social and political concerns to cultural and health matters affecting the LGBTQIA+ community.
