The inaugural Northern Cape Pride is set for Kimberley on 30th November 2024 at the Galeshewe Open Air Arena.
This event promises a vibrant celebration of the LGBTIQ+ community, uniting individuals and allies in a shared commitment to love, acceptance, and equality.
With the theme “Pride with a Purpose,” Northern Cape Pride 2024 will feature a parade, speakers, live performances, and various community activities designed to uplift and empower.
“This historic event marks a significant moment for our province, providing a platform that celebrates diversity and promotes understanding among all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity,” says Tebogo Makwati, a member of the Northern Cape Pride Committee.
The province has seen at least three members of the LGBTIQ+ community murdered this year: Jo-Ann Isaks, a 27-year-old transgender woman, in May, Karabelo Pudumo, an 18-year-old transgender high school student, in June, and 50-year-old gay man, Lazarus Ikaneng Thomas, in September.
Highlights of Northern Cape Pride 2024
Pride Day Parade: Pride Day on 30th November will feature a morning parade showcasing LGBTIQ+ unity and spirit. Organisers encourage participants to wear their most colourful outfits and bring friends and family!
Pride Day Entertainment: Pride Day celebrations will include a line-up of artists, performers, and speakers who will inspire and entertain throughout the day. Local businesses and organisations dedicated to supporting the LGBTIQ+ community will have the opportunity to connect and share information about their services or products.
“We are excited to create a safe and welcoming space where everyone can express themselves and celebrate who they are,” says Makwati. “This inaugural event is not just about pride; it’s about building a community that supports one another and stands together against discrimination.”
