This Pride Month, a brand-new original podcast, Queer in Afrikaans, has launched on Jacaranda FM’s JacPod platform.
Hosted by the charismatic drag queen, Regina Blaque, the podcast brings together unfiltered, colourful and often humorous conversations with some of South Africa’s most recognisable Afrikaans personalities.
Since 2019, Regina Blaque has been a well-known drag queen and MC in and around Johannesburg’s social and cultural circles. Known for her big hair and even bigger heart, Regina is proudly queer and proudly Afrikaans.
She has shared stages with international drag stars from RuPaul’s Drag Race, but her greatest passion lies closer to home: using her platform to foster acceptance, visibility, and community.
“This podcast is all about joy, connection and celebration,” says Regina. “It’s important for me to show that queerness belongs in our language and in our culture. We laugh, we share, and we celebrate together – and that’s exactly what Pride is about.”
Each episode of Queer in Afrikaans invites listeners to see these well-known figures in a completely new light – not only through their work and achievements, but also through their personal stories of identity, community and humanity.
Featuring celebrated names from the worlds of music, sport, television and comedy, Queer in Afrikaans is more than just another podcast, each episode offers a safe, inclusive and entertaining space for honest conversations that feel like sitting around the kitchen table with friends.
The podcast launched on 2 October, just in time for Pride Month and by platforming Afrikaans voices in all their diversity, Queer in Afrikaans reclaims the language as a space where all stories can be told — and celebrated.
Guests include fellow drag artist and Showmax stars Tollie Parton and Maxine Wild, singer Armand Joubert, Supersport anchor Layla Arrison and rugby player Rumandi Potgieter, and comedian Jaxx Justice.
Listeners can look forward to new episodes every Thursday throughout Pride Month (October), available exclusively on JacPod via JacarandaFM.com and all major podcast platforms.
