mistaken identity…. South African designers constantly make the mistake of comparing Johannesburg and Cape Town with New York, Milan and Paris and that’s not what fashion is “really” about. Every city has its own fashion identity… South Africans do not have an identity… (for so many reasons I care not to mention…) What identity do our Cities have? Hence the designers… present a carbon copy of a Mizrahi…. Gilliano and some Dolce… I say so because I attended the show… spoke to a designer… and posed the question… Haute Couture or Pret-a-porte, which kind of designer are you… I may as well have been speaking in French!!!
