FORD CONTINUES WITH GAY BENEFITS

Ford shareholders in the United States have voted overwhelmingly to defeat a motion that would force the car maker to stop offering LGBT workers equal benefits.

The motion had been submitted by Robert Hurley who went to the Securities and Exchange Commission to ensure that the company kept the issue on the agenda at the shareholder’s meeting.

When the motion was finally put to the vote, 95 percent of shareholders chose to reject the proposal. The company had earlier issued a recommendation to shareholders to not support the measure.

Ford has been the target of boycotts by conservative groups in the United States because of the benefits provided to its lesbian and gay workers, and because it advertises in gay publications.
