In a case which has shocked the Netherlands, three gay men are on trial for drugging and injecting 12 other men with HIV positive blood in the city of Groningen.
The 12 victims, all of whom are now HIV positive, claim that they were invited by the accused, via the internet, to orgies where they were drugged with the date rape drug GHB and ecstasy.
They allege that they were then raped and injected with the blood.
The accused, who are aged 39, 48 and 49, have been charged with aggravated assault, rape, and the illegal possession of drugs.
Aids organisations became suspicious about the orgy parties when there was a sudden increase in HIV infections in Groningen and contacted the authorities.
The trial is expected to last a week.
