David Beckham honoured to be a gay icon

Sport superstar and international trend-setter David Beckham has spoken out about his gay fan base – and the size of his manhood, as seen in recent underwear ads.

Speaking to GQ magazine, David denied that his “bulge” had been digitally manipulated to look bigger in the revealing photo shoot to promote Giorgio Armani underwear. “I would never have asked them to change anything, I was a bit apprehensive, and at the shoot I started getting nervous because I’ve never done pictures in my underwear before. It was a question of trying to find a good position that wasn’t too much.” He went on to say that he’s also very happy to be seen as a gay icon: “When people talk to me about being a gay icon I think of it as a great honour. To have that kind of effect on so many people around the world, I was honoured.” We love you too Becks! (But please grow your hair back already!)

In other David Beckham related rumours, the people behind gossip newsletter Popbitch claim that they have a scoop on what the football stud and his wife talk about when at home. They say that according to a guest to a recent dinner party held at ‘Beckingham Palace,’ the ultra-stylish duo spent over an hour talking about… sunglasses.

Guy’s dad glad it’s over

What is it with the parents of British stars and their need to comment about their children’s woes to the press and world at large. First Amy Winehouse’s dad kept putting his foot in his mouth, and now Guy Ritchie’s father, John, has decided to comment about his son’s collapsed marriage to the most famous woman in the world. “He’s been in a very good mood. I wasn’t upset that they split. I am very pleased for Guy that it is over,” he told In Touch Weekly. Word is Guy has been getting over the Material Girl by throwing himself back into the singles social scene.

Meanwhile, the tabloids have been rife with stories about the rumoured romance between Madonna and baseball player Alex Rodriguez. The latest doing the rounds is that the couple hired two private helicopters to be ‘secretly’ flown to comedian Jerry Seinfeld’s mansion in the Hamptons for a liaison late last month. Madonna is apparently a long-time friend of Jerry’s and he doesn’t mind his house being used for illicit affairs. Flying by two noisy helicopters seems to us like a very clever method to travel without being noticed…

Noah’s Arc movie premieres

Fans of gay TV series, Noah’s Arc, which was screened around the country by the Out In Africa Film Festival, will be pleased to know that the much-anticipated movie version opened in the US at the end of last month. Featuring the original cast, Noah’s Arc: Jumping the Broom, has already done well at the box office in limited release at selected cinemas. The film is about what happens when Noah agrees to marry his partner Wade and invites his three closest friends to travel cross-country with them for a weekend of revelry. What he gets instead is a weekend of revelations where secrets and lies are exposed, hearts are challenged and friendships are turned upside down. We met the hunky Darryl Stephens when he visited South Africa a few years ago and we’re pleased to see that he’s become more open about his sexuality. This won’t be a mainstream blockbuster by any stretch of the imagination, but we can’t wait to see it.

Leona Lewis slams fur fans

Leona Lewis, the X Factor-winning singer who’s made it big with hits like Bleeding Love does not approve of people wearing fur. “It’s such an old school way of doing things. I can’t begin to imagine that people who know all these animals have been killed to make a coat can still wear it. There must be something seriously wrong with them,” the 23 year old vegetarian performer said. Commenting on reports that she had turned down $1.59 million to open the Harrods department store sale because it sells fur, she said: “I don’t have anything against the store or the owner – all I am against is fur. I think it’s totally cruel and I can’t endorse or support anything related to that as it’s against my beliefs, no matter what you pay me.” We like a girl with a backbone…

Part-time lesbian Lindsay Lohan’s career woes

Actress Lindsay Lohan has apparently told friends that she is still attracted to men and would probably hook up with a guy should her lesbian relationship with Samantha Ronson go pear-shaped.“She has been telling everyone over and over that she’s still into guys. She keeps saying if anything went wrong with Sam she would date a guy next. She even flirts with guys when they go out,” an un-named ‘friend’ was quoted by Full Disclosure.

Her sexual confusion may be the least of the star’s worries, however. It seems that her diva ways are affecting her career. She was recently dropped from a six episode stint on Ugly Betty after only shooting four episodes: “She was not so interested in creating a character. She was more interested in just playing herself, and that doesn’t work on a show like this with such heightened reality,” said an insider. Now it’s been reported that Lindsay has been replaced by actress Denise Richards as the presenter of the 2008 World Music Awards because organisers “lost confidence” in her. Being replaced with a D-grade celebrity like Denise really shows how far Lindsay’s career has sunk.

Ellen and Pete Wentz distraught over passing of Proposition 8

Two celebrities have gone public with their feelings about this week’s passing of Proposition 8, which will ban gay marriage in California, by the state’s voters. Rocker, Pete Wentz, who’s admitted to kissing boys in the past, released a statement expressing his view. “Many people were intimidated on this issue due to the scary misleading communications on the other side. I believe that this is, and has always been, a civil rights issue. We should not allow inequality like this in America.” Lesbian talk show superstar Ellen DeGeneres, who recently married girlfriend Portia de Rossi, told the Associated Press that “we had taken a giant step toward equality” by electing Barack Obama as president, but that, with the majority of Californian’s voting for Proposition 8, “we took a giant step away”. She went on to add, “I was saddened beyond belief.” So were we, Ellen.
