Actor John Barrowman

John Barrowman, the openly gay lead actor in the sci-fi series Torchwood, has apologised for exposing himself on a live radio show in the UK.

Barrowman was a guest of the Switch programme on BBC’s Radio 1 on Sunday night, where he was goaded by the presenters to pull down his pants.

“You’re famous, we’re told, for getting your willy out in interviews. Is this going to happen today?” asked presenter Nick Grimshaw.

The actor replied that he’d “get it out” as listeners then heard him undo his trousers on air. He later commented that “I didn’t take the whole thing out, but I got my fruit and nuts out.”

Barrowman, who’s become a favourite of the gay community for his good looks and openness about his sexuality, has since apologised, despite the incident only generating one official complaint.

“I apologise for any offence I have caused. I was joining in the light-hearted and fun banter of the show and went too far. I was wrong to do this and it will never happen again,” he said.

A BBC spokeswoman commented that, “We do feel that the programme overstepped the mark. We acknowledge this and apologised at the end of the live programme.”

The corporation emphasised that nothing illicit was seen on the show’s studio webcam.
