FAMILY OF MURDERED GAY STUDENT FILE SUIT

The family of a 15-year-old gay US student who was allegedly murdered by a classmate has filed a massive wrongful-death lawsuit against various parties.

Lawrence King, who identified as gay, was shot in a classroom by then 14-year-old Brandon McInterney in February last year.

McInterney is to be tried as an adult in the case.

Now King’s family is suing almost two dozen parties, who it claims played a part in King’s death.

These not only include McInterney, but also the school he attended, a gay rights organisation and a children’s shelter.

The family claims that Lawrence’s “sexually assertive” behaviour was never addressed by E.O. Green Junior High or the Casa Pacifica shelter for troubled children and that the shelter gave him “cross-dressing clothes and makeup and women’s boots.”

It also claims that the Rainbow Alliance group encouraged him to be assertive with his sexuality and to make sexual advances on others.

Both the shelter and the organisation have denied the claims.

It was reported at the time of the incident that that King had come out as gay at school and was often teased by students for wearing make-up and jewellery.
