SA IDOLS STAR COMES OUT
South African singer and 2002 Idols finalist Melanie Lowe has officially come out and announced her engagement to another woman in the June issue of O Magazine.
In a letter to fans, published on her website and Facebook page on Tuesday, the performer confirmed that she is engaged to her fiancée, Angela.
Lowe said that she had met her partner just over a year ago in Johannesburg, and this was the reason for her relocation from Durban.
“There are so many people who spend their whole lives searching for their own truth. After many years of struggling with myself, I am finally able to say I’ve found it, and that is all thanks to a wonderful, supportive partner,” she wrote.
The singer added that, “I like to believe that you will stand behind me and support me. We are very lucky to have the support of most of our family and friends. It makes everything so much easier for us. I know that many people are not as lucky as we are in that regard.”
Lowe came third in the first season of South Africa’s Idols show, and continues to work as a South African Music Award (SAMA) winning songwriter and singer, regularly performing around the country. She is finalising details of her “Coming Out Tour” and is expected to perform at Pretoria gay nightclub Legends in August.
