It has been claimed by the UK’s Daily Mail that Saturday Night Fever star John Travolta is losing faith in the Church of Scientology, the controversial religion which he has been a part of for the past 34 years.
After the tragic death of his 16 year old son Jett earlier this year, it is alleged that the star started questioning the claims Scientology makes about its ability to cure a variety of physical and mental disorders.
Jett was diagnosed with autism, and suffered around four fits a week. This is said to have ultimately led to his death in January at the family’s holiday home in the Bahamas.
However the Church claims that conditions such as autism do not exist, but are merely psychosomatic, and recommends that such cases be treated with detoxification programmes and vitamins, rather than conventional drugs.
It has now been speculated that the Church has evidence that would expose Travolta as gay if he ever decided to publically abandon the religion. Homosexual rumours began surrounding Travolta after his controversial kiss on the lips with Jeff Kathrein, a fellow Scientologist who was Jett’s “nanny”.
“There’s no change in the relationship between the Church of Scientology and John,” his rep Paul Bloch told People. “He is a member and it’s as it was, now and forever.” Travolta is married to fellow Scientologist and actor Kelly Preston, but has admitted that they have had to resort to years of marriage counselling to keep their relationship on track.
