SPORTSMAN COMES OUT THE CLOSET

Advertorial

A leading Irish sportsman has revealed that he is gay in a new autobiography.

Donal Og Cusack (32) is a star in the ancient sport of hurling, an outdoor game similar to hockey which is played in the UK and many Commonwealth countries around the world, including South Africa.

In his autobiography, Come What May, which is expected to shock the conservative sporting establishment, the legendary goalkeeper writes that he slept with both men and women before coming to terms with being gay.

“I went out with nice women and good women, but sure, I still knew. I wanted something else. I get more out of men. I just do. Always have. I know I am different but just in this way,” he writes.

Cusack also described how he decided to come out to his family. While he was in South Africa he received a call from his sister in Ireland telling him about rumours surrounding his sexuality. He then flew home to tell his family, including his father, the truth.

Come What May will be released this month in Ireland.
