Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres
Talk show comedienne Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, have talked about their relationship on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
The women, who married in August last year, made an appearance on the show in part to promote Ellen being on the cover of the December edition of O Magazine, along with Winfrey.
Speaking about their marriage, Ellen (51) told Winfrey: “It feels like you’re home. There’s an anchor, there’s a safety. I’m going to be with her until the day I die and I know that.”
De Rossi (36) also spoke about the start of their relationship and being in the closet: “It took me three years to actually tell her how I felt about her because I was on Ally McBeal at the time and I was not living as an openly gay person.
“I was closeted and very, very afraid that if I talked about being gay, it would be the end of my career, so I wasn’t about to then date the most famous lesbian in the world,” she said.
While the two stars are officially married under California law, voters chose to ban any future same-sex marriages in the state a few months after they tied the knot.
