Disgraced former Miss California Carrie Prejean threatened to walk out of an interview with Larry King on live television.
Prejean was on King’s talk show, in separate studios, to promote her book, Still Standing, about her experience of being crowned Miss California USA, and then being fired because of what pageant officials said were “contract violations”.
The beauty pageant queen, who caused a furore when she said that she believed that marriage was only between a man and a women at the Miss USA pageant in April, has been under intense media scrutiny following revelations that she appeared in a sex tape.
During the interview with King, Prejean took exception when he asked why she had dropped her lawsuit against the organisers of Miss USA. Reports said that she abandoned the legal action when confronted with the sex tape by the pageant’s lawyers.
Prejean repeatedly refused to answer’s King’s question. “Larry, it’s completely confidential and you’re being inappropriate,” she said.
A frustrated King then took a caller’s question and while the person was asking the question, Prejean removed her microphone as if she was about to walk out, looked around the studio and mouthed something to someone off camera.
She was then unable to fully hear the caller’s question or King speaking to her. She did blurt out “I think that you are being extremely inappropriate right now and I’m about to leave your show.”
The smiling Prejean stayed in her chair, however, and after several awkward moments, the programme cut to a commercial break. When the show returned, the interview continued normally.
Commenting on the incident on Larry King Live, Miss California’s President Keith Lewis told the TMZ website: “The public is finally getting a glimpse of the real Carrie Prejean who lives in her own delusional world.
“The childish behaviour, her negative attitude, the sarcasm and condescending tone, the disrespect and continual lying she is demonstrating now is only a fraction of what we endured during her reign and after.
Anyone who buys her book is supporting a woman who is actually the opposite of everything she claims to be.”
