LEGENDS BRIEFLY CLOSED

Advertorial

Legends in Pretoria, voted the most popular gay nightclub in the country by Mambaonline visitors, was shut down by police on Friday night for by-law violations, but was re-opened by Saturday night.

According to owner Fulvio De Stefanis, the Metro department and the police made an unexpected formal inspection on the venue and found that there were insufficient emergency lights and signage pointing to exits.

As a result, the club was shut down overnight. The management was able to rectify the concerns and the authorities allowed Legends to reopen the next night.

De Stefanis was quick to refute any possible suggestions that the club was targeted because it is a gay establishment.

“The Metro department were only doing their job and they have our full support. It was explained that all the high profile venues are getting these formal inspections to ensure that we meet all the by-laws in respect of running a night club. Especially in light of our 2010 visitors,” he said.

De Stefanis apologised for the inconvenience to patrons on Friday night and assured club goers that the venue is fully operational.

Legends celebrates its fifth birthday this coming weekend.
