MAMBA GOSSIP
Enrique’s banned video revealed
When Enrique Iglesias made the steamy video for the song Sad Eyes in 2000 it was promptly banned. Thankfully. some kind soul has placed it on YouTube to allow us to experience Enrique in all his buff glory. The video features the singer fantasising over a model in a phone sex commercial. While the star is reputed to be unimpressively endowed, he sure makes up for it with his sexy bod and gay-friendly antics. (Does anyone remember when he performed at G-A-Y in London in 2007 and pulled up a gay fan on stage whom he lovingly embraced while serenading the lucky bastard?) Cape Town in celebrity frenzy
There’s apparently been some kind of football related thingy happening in Cape Town this past week. We’re admittedly not very sport oriented here at Mamba Mansions, but we’re very aware of the fact that the citizens of the Mother City have been kept very busy celeb-watching as a result. Our own Oscar-winning meisie Charlize Theron has been seen all over the place with family and friends, while David Beckham has been hanging out at the swankiest hotels in town. Becks also managed to do some good while in SA, visiting the Coaching for Hope program, which raises uses soccer to help create a better future for disadvantaged youth. “It is amazing to visit a project like this and see the effect football has on young people. Football has the power to change lives and these youngsters are able to learn valuable lessons through their love of the game,” he said afterwards. Go Becks!
Lady Gaga wants to get married
Revealing that she’s not only a fame-hungry artist, Lady Gaga – who this week received six Grammy Award nominations – has admitted that she really just wants to get married and have babies. “In eight to 10 years, I want to have babies for my dad to hold – grandkids. And I want to have a husband who loves and supports me, just the way anyone else does,” she told Elle Magazine in an interview for the January issue. She added, however, that “I would never leave my career for a man right now, and I would never follow a man around.” The groundbreaking star also surprised by telling the magazine that when it came to the cover of her CDs she was the one who wanted to tone things down: “My album covers are not sexual at all, which was an issue at my record label. I fought for months, and I cried at meetings. They didn’t think the photos were commercial enough…The last thing a young woman needs is another picture of a sexy pop star writhing in sand, covered in grease, touching herself.” Who knew!
All the Mr. Gay SA gossip
The Mr. Gay SA pageant took place in Pretoria recently and Gossip Monger was there, watching the show and mingling with the hunks afterwards. The production was modest but very well put together; Jason Greer was as dryly humorous and sexy as ever, Tim Moloi impressed with his stunning voice, while the ditzy Judy Page reminded us of a fabulously glamorous granny who wandered in from the old age home. Bless… Cathy Specific must have a clone or two out there – she seems to be just about everywhere these days. The contestants were sadly horribly fake-tanned with orange dominating the stage. And some of those bizarre costumes (think Sound of Music meets S&M dungeon)… The biggest surprise of the night was that Cape Town hottie Chris Macgregor, (who we suspect was the public favourite), failed to take the title. He didn’t even come second or third! When the winners were announced there was a shocked silence in the auditorium. Some speculated that he didn’t win because he was overly confident. Who knows, but on looks alone, he was our hands down favourite (he did, however, take the Bone Wear Model of the Year title). We discovered that the other stunner of the competition Tyrone Nell had pulled out of the pageant because of “work commitments” and could not make the five day cruise before the show. (Word is he’s been signed to Boss Models.) And the ‘skandaal’ didn’t end there, with guests abuzz over the news that at least three of the finalists, including the very cute winner Charl van den Berg, had posed for dirty pictures in the past. Sies! We’ve yet to get our hands on Charl’s… pictures, but we’d very much like to know if he’s a worthy winner in ALL departments.
Susan Boyle breaks records
We’re not in the habit of writing about overweight female Scottish singers, but Susan Boyle is the exception. The emotionally unstable star (we doubt that being famous will do her much good in that department, to be honest) has apparently broken records with her debut album. I Dreamed a Dream, which consists of covers of well-known songs, has sold more than 700,000 copies in the first week in the US alone, making it the biggest debut album of the year and the biggest debut for a female singer since 2002 in that country. “I’m incredibly proud of Susan and delighted for her. This success couldn’t have happened to a more deserving person,” said Simon Cowell. who has helped make her a star. Our suggestion to Susan is to take the money and run – fame and celebrity do not favour the vulnerable in the long term.
Robert Pattinson jokes about biting male fan
New Moon vampire stud, Robert Pattinson recently joked on the David Letterman show that he quite liked biting the neck of a male fan. Robert told David that it’s not only female fans that regularly ask him for love bites. “There were a couple more guys, on this sequel. There was a guy, kind of, maybe 230-pound guy who was at the premiere, kind of Hispanic looking, and he was asking me to bite him as well. So I did. And surprisingly I kind of liked it afterwards…and I’ve been out to dinner a couple times with him since,” he laughed. Hmm… If he’s freely dishing them out we’d be the first to line up for a nibble from Mr. Pattinson.
True Blood casts gay vampire
Seeing that the creator of True Blood is the openly gay Alan Ball, it’s about time that we were treated to a regular gay vampire character in this brilliant series. Well, it’s about to happen. It’s been reported that Greek-born hottie Theo Alexander has been cast as Talbot, an “intensely beautiful” vampire, the boyfriend of Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare), the vampire king of Mississippi.” The character “has an acerbic sense of humour and loves to cook despite vampires’ inherent lack of cooking talents.” You may recognise the relatively unknown Alexander from guest roles in shows such as Pushing Daisies, CSI: NY and Chuck. The character of Talbot will make his first appearance in the third season of True Blood.
Tiger Woods pays his wife to stay put
Goodness!
Mr Gay SA. Eventually somebody has the guts to say something about the Mr. Gay SA mess-up. To add what you have said, the entertainment sucked! Judy Page, I mean is that the best you can think of (Maybe because the organiser(s) are a bit old to be doing this? The “scene” consists of younger people, so move aside… Then half the finalists werent exactly what I will call the hottest around…And finally, who is those judges anyway? Except the Mr. Gay World guy, the rests is sponsors, who makes them the ones to decide? Professionals, please!
The winner, a nude model for some dodge film studio, my god, is this truly the best person we could have chosen??
Only the compliment I can think of, is that it looked better than last years competition, and the prizes was much better, oh and Cathy and Jason, the only people worth seeing!
Good Luck for next year….
Winner. So WHAT if the winner posed naked somewhere? What’s the problem with that? This wasn’t a competition to find the best Sunday School Teacher in SA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are so hypocritical – I bet you have naked pics on Gaydar but don’t show your face???
Congrats to the winner!!!!!
NOT THE POINT. THATS NOT THE POINT – THE POINT IS THAT WE WANT A MR GAY SA THAT WILL REPRESENT OUR GAY COMUNIT – AND NOT PUT OUT THE IMAGE THET WE ARE ALL SLUTS…,
MY GOD IF THEY WERE AT LEAST HOTTT I BET EVERYONE WOULD HAVE FELT ALOT DIFFERENT – AND THEN WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT THE RUMOURS THATS GOING AROUND THAT HE SLEPT WITH THE ORGANIZER AND 2 JUDGES….SIS
MR GAY SA. I CANNOT AGREE MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MR GAY SA WAS A FKN JOKE AND THE CONTESTANTS WAS AN EVEN BIGGER JOKE………
THATS WHY I DONT WANT TO ASSOSIATE BECAUSE OUR GAYS NAME IS DRAGGED THROUGH THE MUD BY ALL THIS MICKEY MOUSE EVENTS..
AND FOR THE PORN STARS THAT MADE THE FINALISTS – THEIR NOT SOMEONE I WILL WANT TO LOOK UP TO!!!!!!
Mr Gay SA. I’d like to congratulate the organisers on a mostly-slick show. It’s hands-down the best Mr Gay SA I’ve ever seen – especially after last year’s horrifically-embarrassing fiasco!
I do agree though, with “Finally’s” comment about the judges – sponsor don’t necessarily make the best deciders. Beautiful boy Chris should’ve come in AT LEAST third. Next year we need more audience participation and maybe a Miss World-style onstage question so we can see how the boys perform onstage… ya?
Gay Friendly Antics…. Please, I know I’m a little non scene, but re: Enrique article…what are gay friendly antics??? Do you wear pink, mince and lisp loudly when passing Gay venues? Or perhaps often assume the classic ‘teapot stance’ while wearing a teeshirt that says ‘Gays are so nice, really, they are’?? Or wait, I think I’ve got it now…you get cute with a Gay boy once at a concert, (pretty transparent marketing knowing that a large percentage of your fans are Queer..) and some highly excitable third rate journalist (whose sword is clearly mightier than his pen..) coins a really lame term like Gay friendly antics, and applies it to you!! Silly me for not guessing outright…
Mr Gay SA – show was great. The show was great, but I agree Granny lee ag Judy page was NOT ON!
Give us younger performers and some eye candy there as well please. All good otherwiose and Charl is a nice guy. Ok he did some things in the past, but who hasn’t?
I, for one, am very happy Chris McGreggor didn’t win. He’s the last person we should be idolising in the gay world and looking to as a role model. Sleeps with anything that’ll drop its pants for him and doesn’t have any issue cheating on/with people.
Disgrace. Come on!
The idea was to get a gay role model or somesuch. Or that is the vibe one got from all the press leading up to the event.
But then you have the director’s choices or whatever guys that got put through…um rigged?
Then there is the ‘porn’/nudie pics issues. Let’s all think about it…. is someone who posed in the altogether really a role model? Will the whole ‘gays are promiscuous’ bull go away if we keep playing up to it?
Maybe professionals should run the competition next year? Ie people who don’t have ‘Rainbow Boys’ parties etc? Maybe get the people who run Miss SA? So they’re not gay – but maybe the competition would be above reproach then?
I’m disappointed – this could have been good but ended up being the same old same old…
Press release. (Read paragraph 2… an event we will be proud to be associated with – yeah right)
Mr. Gay South Africa? / Mnr Gay Suid-Afrika? Competition Launched
Pretoria, South Africa – 29 May 2009
The board of directors of Mr. Gay South Africa (Pty) Ltd have announced the launch of the registered and trade-marked Mr. Gay South Africa? / Mnr Gay Suid-Afrika? competition in South Africa. This will be a very exciting and most probably the richest pageant of its kind in the country.
The CEO, Mr. Cor Jansen van Rensburg, an MBA-graduate who is based in London, said that the company is looking for a candidate who does not only possess beauty on the outside, but also from within. A gay man of impeccable character, taste and style ? and of course ? a temple of a body to house these admirable qualities. A candidate of whom the LGBTI community ? in all its diversity ? can be proud of.
The other directors of the company are Juan C. Lerm, well-known in the gay community for launching and organising the annual Pink Loerie Mardi Gras in Knysna and Coenie Kukkuk, Pretoria-based attorney and editor of online magazine, Gayspeak.
Juan as Director of Operations is heading up all operations for the competition including the regional finals, the sponsors, the candidates and of course, the glamorous final event at a very upmarket venue in Gauteng. Details will be announced closer to the event. The final is planned to be before Christmas of this year. Mr Kukkuk is responsible for the media and legal division. The three directors bring many years of experience of events in the gay community to the table.
Candidates who want to enter, can do so online. The first three regional finalists for the Eastern Cape were chosen during the Pink Loerie Mardi Gras. The three outstanding candidates, Chris Macgregor, Tyrone Nell and Leo Jan De Beer, qualified for the final by virtue of their achievement in Mr Mardi Gras. The rest of the regional competitions will be announced soon ? keep an eye on the website!
The final event will be something that will attract national attention. It will be stylish, glamorous, packed with celebrities and major sponsors ? and of course, entertainment of the best that South Africa can offer.
The Directors said that nothing but the best will do ? candidates, prizes, sponsors and the final crowning night.
An event the LGBTI community will be proud to be associated with.
