MCDONALD’S FIRES HOMOPHOBIC MANAGER

The manager of the Salt Lake Road, Orlando, Florida, branch of McDonald’s has been fired after he refused to hire a 17 year old trans women and left an abusive message on her voicemail.

Zikerria Bellamy applied online for a position at the McDonald’s in July, and was then contacted by the un-named man who left a message saying that “You will not get hired. We do not hire faggots.” He went on to say: “You lied to me. You told me you were a woman.”

The Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund (TLDEF) filed an employment discrimination complaint with the Florida Commission on Human Relations on behalf of Bellamy.

On Tuesday, following the public outcry over the incident, the branch issued a statement announcing that it had let the manager in question go.

“Salt Lake Road McDonald’s has a strict policy prohibiting any form of discrimination or harassment in hiring, termination, or any other aspect of employment in the organization,” the outlet said.

“The restaurant requires all employees to comply with local, state and federal employment laws.

“Upon learning about this matter, the restaurant investigated the claims to gather the facts, and action was taken consistent with employment policies.

“The behaviour of the individual in question is not reflective of the employment policies in the organization. Further, this individual acted outside the scope of his authority and was not responsible for hiring. The individual in question is no longer employed by the restaurant.”
