Following in the footsteps of Carrie Prejean, Miss Beverly Hills 2010 Lauren Ashley, 23, has cited the bible as evidence that gays should be put to death.

Speaking to Fox News, Ashley – who will be vying for the Miss California title later this year – said that she is opposed to same-sex marriage and that God agrees with her.

“The Bible says that marriage is between a man and a woman. In Leviticus it says, ‘If man lies with mankind as he would lie with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death and their blood shall be upon them.’ The Bible is pretty black and white,” said Ashley.

“I feel like God himself created mankind and he loves everyone, and he has the best for everyone. If he says that having sex with someone of your same gender is going to bring death upon you, that’s a pretty stern warning, and he knows more than we do about life,” she added.

At last year’s Miss USA pageant, the then Miss California, Carrie Prejean, caused a furore when she responded to a question by saying that she was opposed to same-sex marriage.

Prejean was chosen as a Miss USA runner-up and went on to champion her position against same sex marriage. She was later fired for not fulfilling her contractual obligations and fell out of favour with Christian conservatives after it was revealed that she had appeared in a solo sex tape.

Ashley told Fox News that she was a fan of Prejean: “She is definitely a beautiful person and I love that she stood up for what she believes in. I think that’s gorgeous.”
