FASHION ICON AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE
Gay fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has said in an interview that he is against the idea of same-sex marriage because it represents the normalising of gay people.
Lagerfeld, who is head designer for Chanel, told gay filmmaker Bruce LaBruce in an interview for VICE magazine that: “Yes, I’m against it for a very simple reason: In the 60s they all said we had the right to the difference. And now, suddenly, they want a bourgeois life”.
He added: “For me it’s difficult to imagine—one of the papas at work and the other at home with the baby. How would that be for the baby? I don’t know. I see more lesbians married with babies than I see boys married with babies. And I also believe more in the relationship between mother and child than in that between father and child.”
Speaking about adoption, the 76 year old Lagerfeld said: “I don’t like the idea of taking people out of their lives and their contexts. If there were a child I wanted to adopt, I would try to find the family of the child and give them the money for an education in his life and his context.”
Lagerfeld, who traditionally refuses to discuss his personal life, said in the interview that he prefers to have sex with “high-class escorts” rather than with his partners.
“I don’t like sleeping with people I really love. I don’t want to sleep with them because sex cannot last, but affection can last forever. I think this is healthy. And for the way the rich live, this is possible. But the other world, I think they need porn.”
Lagerfeld not only oversees collections for Chanel and Fendi but also has his own fashion label.
WTF!. You are so fucked up dude! Go back to the middle ages! Lol
Carl Lagerfeldt. Methinks he should stick to fashion. Everything else this man believes is rather phucked up!
Une le?on de fran?ais. Plut?t garder la bouche ferm?e et ?tre pens? un fou que pour l’ouvrir et lever tous les doutes.
….. Je suis d’accord …
@Paris. La v?rit? parfaitement dit!
what’s this?. vot u mean?

brilliant, not phucked. If berlin and GS could give yourselves two minutes each to think about some of Lagerfeldts ideas, instead of going in for the predictable knee-jerk, self-righteous and thoroughly conservative response, you would see that, far from being medieval, they are actually so new, original and fresh, that one wonders where you could have come across such notions anywhere else. Perhaps you would like to give your references.
For example, his idea of giving financial assistance to parents who need it to raise their children themselves instead of having to give them up to adoption into a probably totally different environment, and not necessarily a particularly suitable one at that, seems to me to be absolutely revolutionary, not to mention genuinely altruistic, generous and unselfish. It is very worthy of consideration at least – and I have certainly never heard this idea proposed anywhere before.
Also, his idea that true love does not need sex, but, in fact, is often threatened by sex is, I am sure, something which many would agree with (to themselves) if only they looked back dispassionately at their own experiences over the years, for example when physical attractiveness starts to die, as, almost inevitably, it does over time. Personal attractiveness, by contrast, could persist, so why threaten it by insisting on linking it with the physical?
This world is desperately in need of more original thinkers ? or perhaps just of thinkers as such ? like Lagerfeldt.
Ew. Karl has never been a person I admire by far. And this is why. Only those tight-arsed sandton yuppies could possibly agree with this guy.
The Chanel brand is slowly going down, and it’s unfortunate. But Karl is quite old, if he dies soon maybe someone with actual vision and originality can return the label to it’s glory. Lets hold thumbs, i’ll bet he has a heart-attack while he’s with one of his escorts.
Futuristic Brilliance. The words of Karl Lagerfeld are lost on most.
Marriage is such an outdated-archaic-religious-institution it is a mere miracle that people still get married. The whole concept needs to be rethinked especially within the gay society. Because applying the cooky-cutter method of marriage, that is already not working for straight couples, right onto the relationships of gays is clearly a recipe for failure.
Unfortunately, the modern gay society has completely lost it’s way and identity in it’s fight for equal rights. Furthermore, through the blind consumption of mass media and stereotypes we find ourselves more and more in a gentrified suburbia with false social and ethical projections. With more people just existing in this suspended reality of life, dictated by the false trappings of mild success.
Understanding Lagerfeld’s perspective will take more than just an open mind. It begs for a complete reinvention of the status quo, the shedding of the suffocating principals of politics and religion and an end to the porn-like-consumption of the mass media.
Chanel has only done better with Lagerfeld at the helm of design, bringing a sense of rejuvenated relevance to the brand to take it into the future. It might also be added, with great business and financial success.
It is advised to listen when Lagerfeld speaks and to take the necessary introspection when necessary, even if difficult.
But please don’t just sit there and hurl idiotic and ignorant remarks at the man. First, it is impolite and without class.
Secondly, it is a clear sign of your unconscious existence without enlightenment.
Lagerfeld is a genius, not only in design and business but most importantly also in life. Have respect and listen up!
Double ew. I’ve listened and read.
And as much as I hate to admit it, I agree with his view on marriage. But Karl isn’t a person to be admired, and I feel that admiration for people like him is true ignorance.
Along with with a majority of people, Karl truly believes that some people are better than others. Just because he has a ton of cash and everyone knows who he is, does that make him better than you? What really makes one person better than the next?
You can continue to go on about how amazing and innovative he is, but at the end of the day, he’s just a pompous prick. The fact that he refers to anyone who isn’t rich or famous as “the other world” is just depressing, i thought we were out of the middle ages.
And as for his influence on the fashion world, he really isn’t that innovative, I haven’t seen much evolution in his work, but that’s just me. Think what you will, and I’ll do the same.
