VATICAN: GAYS LINKED TO PAEDOPHILIA
The second in command at the Vatican has stated that homosexuality among priests is to blame for the Church’s child abuse scandals, and not celibacy.
“Many psychologists and psychiatrists have shown that there is no link between celibacy and paedophilia but many others have shown, I have recently been told, that there is a relationship between homosexuality and paedophilia…,” said Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone.
“That is the problem,” he added.
Bertone, who is the Vatican’s secretary of state and known by some as “the deputy Pope”, made the statement at a press conference in Chile. He failed to detail his sources or who the “many psychologists and psychiatrists” were.
The comments have been slammed by gay rights activists, who have accused the Catholic Church of refusing to take responsibility for the growing number of cases of child molestation by priests around the world.
Bertone said that the Pope, who has himself been accused of covering up child abuse claims in Germany when he was a Bishop there, would be taking more action on the issue.
He did it!. Yes, I agree, there are many homosexuals in the catholic church, and a minority of them may be paedophiles, but let’s not generalise and say that all homosexual priests are paedophiles. It is just not true. Most of the homosexual priests are as celibate as their hetero colleagues. Just because a few homosexual priests sexually abuse kids, that does not justify preventing all homosexuals from entering the priesthood. There are straight priests who have abused kids in the past – why doesn’t the Vatican prevent straight people from becoming priests? The Church finds itself between a rock and a hard place and is trying to find any scapegoat to explain its own sins. Sad, very sad!
Religion & ignorance. On a personal level religion is a wonderful, fulfilling thing. On an institutional level it is an evil, vile cancer that capitalizes on ignorance to further it;s own agenda.
Did a quick search and found the following stats from the US iro gender of victims:
Rate of sexual abuse by gender:
1.7 victims per 1,000 female children
0.4 victims per 1,000 male children
Since the incidence of female child abuse stats is 4 times greater than that of male child abuse victims a link cannot be drawn.
Knowledge is power, and until knowledge such as this is spread, the lies and misinformation vomited out by the Vatican will take hold. It is a sad day whenever any individual is misled, it is even sadder when those misleading them are the ones they trust to show them the right way!
Pope?. Maybe the Pope should also be investigated……
How typical. why not blame homosexuals for drought ,famine and the state this poor world of ours is in…!
I am aware of very few gays that are paedophiles…it is normally the str8’s,and ones trusted to the families at that….
