ANTI-GAY BILL AUTHOR BANNED FROM THE UK?

Advertorial

David Bahati

The Guardian reports that the British government is considering banning the architect of the Ugandan anti-gay bill from visiting the UK.

According to the newspaper, the Foreign Office, the Department for International Development and the Borders Agency are planning to block any visa applications by MP David Bahati if he continues to pursue the passing of the bill.

A senior British government source told the Guardian that the issue could become a “major diplomatic incident if the Ugandans do not back down”.

Bahati, a born again Christian, is the MP for the constituency of Ndorwa West and is a member of Uganda’s ruling party. His Anti-Homosexuality Bill would impose the death penalty on anyone who has consensual and safe sex with an HIV positive person or if found repeatedly guilty of homosexual acts.

The bill, which has been slammed by governments and human rights organisations around the world, appears to have stalled in the legislature and it is unclear when it will be up for vote by MPs.
