LESBIANS CLAIM HOMOPHOBIC HOSPITAL ABUSE

Advertorial

A lesbian couple has accused Leratong Hospital, on Johannesburg’s West Rand, of brutal violent and emotional homophobic abuse.

Eyewitness News has reported that the un-named women claim that when one of them was hospitalised last month because of a series of fits caused by a brain tumour, she was allegedly tied to her bed and beaten by nursing staff.

The woman was also allegedly not allowed to go to the bathroom or to bathe. According to the couple, the victim’s abuse was directly related to her sexuality.

“I am not prepared to keep quiet. This is unfair and its inhumane, how can people do this to another person,” the woman’s partner told Eyewitness News.

The women have laid a complaint with Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu and the police and were also planning to take legal action.

“We’ve opened charges with the police so there’s a case now and I’m seeking a lawyer,” said the one woman.
