FUNDRAISING FOR MR. GAY WORLD BID HOTS UP

Maria Garcia International – the beauty product company – has joined the fundraising efforts to send the Mr Gay South Africa™ committee to the Philippines where it will present its bid to host Mr Gay World 2012 in South Africa.

“If South Africa is awarded the bid to host Mr Gay World 2012, not only will it promote the LGBTI or gay community in Africa, but it will contribute to our tourism as well as on much needed other levels, including our economy,” said Maria Garcia International.

“It will also focus the attention of the world on the plight of LGBTI Africans including issues such as ‘corrective rape’.”

The company has pledged 50% of all proceeds from the sale of selected sale items to the Mr. Gay South Africa organising committee.

According to Mr. Gay South Africa director Coenie Kukkuk, the team is around R 14,000 short of the funds required to get the committee to Manila.

Kukkuk noted that a few fundraising weekends-away are still available for sale at Kat-Man-Doo, the luxury five star gay male retreat in Dullstroom, Mpumalanga.

The sale of these discounted “Manila Specials”, which were donated by Kat-Man-Doo, goes directly towards funding the Mr. Gay South Africa trip to Manila.
