MISSING LESBIAN BLOGGER MYSTERY

Advertorial

Is this Amina Abdallah Araf al Omari?

Doubt has been cast on claims that an openly-lesbian blogger, who is said to have been abducted in Syria, actually exists.

Earlier this week, international media reported that Amina Abdallah Araf al Omari, a Syrian-American who publishes her ‘A Gay Girl in Damascus’ blog, had been kidnapped.

The blog has been critical of the Syrian regime and its recent crackdown on public protests.

Now, questions have surfaced about Araf, with some suggesting that her identity and apparent kidnapping may have been faked.

The sources who provided information about Araf, including activists and a reporter for the Associated Press, revealed that they had never actually met her, only corresponding with her online.

Attempts to track down Araf’s family, anyone who has met her in person or to find details of her birth in America have thus far all reportedly failed.

A photo which has been widely circulated of Araf may also be fake.

Jelena Lecic, a British woman with no connection to Araf, has come forward, insisting that the image is actually of her and that it was stolen from her Facebook profile.
