MAN SAYS GOD TOLD HIM TO STAB & RAPE LESBIAN COUPLE

Isaiah Kalebu

A US man standing trial for attacking and raping a lesbian couple, killing one of the women, claims that God told him to attack them.

Isaiah Kalebu (25) allegedly broke into the home of the two woman in July 2009 and proceeded to rape, torture and stab them, fatally wounding Teresa Butz (39).

She jumped out the window of her home in an attempt to run away from her assailant only to die naked in a pool of blood in the street outside.

Her dying words to neighbours were reported as being: “He told us if we did what he asked us to do, he wouldn’t hurt us. He lied, he lied.”

When questioned by defence attorney Ramona Brandes about the attack, Kalebu said: “I was there and I was told by my God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to attack enemies. I followed the instructions by God.”

Kalebu’s lawyers have tried, unsuccessfully so far, to paint him as mentally unfit to stand trial.

Kalebu, who has a history of mental illness, is facing charges of murder, first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, first-degree rape and first-degree burglary.

During the almost four week-long trial he has had to be physically restrained a number of times to prevent him from disrupting proceedings.

At one point he was barred from his own trial and only allowed to watch the proceedings on television. He has also been tied to a wheelchair and fitted with a ‘shock sleeve’ to prevent him from making outbursts or becoming violent in court.
