BRAD PITT WELCOMES GAY MARRIAGE IN NEW YORK
Actor and sex symbol Brad Pitt has issued a statement to People magazine applauding the recent legalisation of same-sex marriage in the state of New York.
“It is encouraging that New York has joined the movement to grant equal marriage rights to its citizens. But it is each American’s Constitutional right to marry the person they love, no matter what state they inhabit,” said the 47-year-old star.
“No state should decide who can marry and who cannot. Thanks to the tireless work of so many, someday soon this discrimination will end and every American will be able to enjoy their equal right to marriage.”
In 2009, Pitt said that he and long-time partner Angelina Jolie might one day consider getting married “when it’s legal for everyone else“.
In 2008, he donated $100 000 dollars towards the campaign to support same-sex marriage rights in California.
New York became the sixth and largest US state to allow same-sex couples to marry after the state senate passed a marriage equality bill on Friday 24 June.
