GAY KISS-IN PLANS FOILED

Pope Benedict XVI

Plans to stage a gay kiss-in protest in front of Pope Benedict XVI during his visit to Spain has been blocked by police.

Around 100 gay and lesbian activists had hoped to protest against the Pontiff’s anti-gay views by kissing along his route through Madrid on Thursday.

Police, however, foiled their efforts by cordoning off their meeting place and forcing the activists to disperse.

Around 50 protestors still staged a kiss-in front of police as officers kept Roman Catholic youth away from the activists.

Police also clashed with protestors who oppose state funds being use to pay for the Pope’s visit.

The Pope has stated that homosexuality and same-sex unions are a threat to the survival of humanity and has campaigned same-sex marriage equality.

In December 2008 he warned that a “blurring” of genders could lead to the end of the human race.
