NEIL PATRICK HARRIS & PARTNER: WE’RE NOT ROLE MODELS
Celebrity gay couple Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka say that they do not want to be seen as “role models” for LGBT people.
The couple – who are raising twins together – made the comment at the recent L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center’s 40th Anniversary Gala.
“I sort of go out of my way not to be Soap Box Johnny,” Harris told E Online.
“We’re super happy to lead by example, but even to define ourselves in any kind of leadership position I think is awkward. I cringe when I hear people say they consider themselves role models.”
Burtka, the actor’s partner of seven years, added: “We really don’t do anything. We take care of our kids. We’re in a relationship. We love each other, but we don’t go out of the way to stand on a soapbox, like Neil said.”
The Emmy-award-winning Harris is best known for his roles in Doogie Howser, M.D. and in How I Met Your Mother. He recently starred in the hit movie The Smurfs.
Burtka is also an actor as well as a chef and runs a Los Angeles catering company.
The mark of a true role model … lead by example and not PR campaign, like it!
