George Michael has been admitted to hospital in Austria for pneumonia, forcing the singer to cancel a series of concerts.

The 48-year-old star was placed in intensive care at Vienna’s AKH General Hospital after his condition deteriorated just hours before he was set to perform in the city.

Latest news, however, indicates that Michael is beginning to recover.

“George has woken up and he’s in good spirits. Doctors are very pleased with him, and he’s making progress,” a source told the Daily Mail.

“He’s been in terrible pain. This a very serious condition. It cannot be understated. George needs rest. It takes ages to recover.”

An official statement said: “Singer George Michael has been forced to postpone the Cardiff dates (26th and Sunday 27th of November) of his Symphonica tour due to illness.

“The singer recently postponed tour dates in Vienna and Strasbourg under doctor’s orders after being diagnosed with pneumonia and he is currently receiving treatment.”

According to The Sun, Michael has vowed to be back on stage in a week, in time for a November 30 performance in Liverpool.

Michael is said to be dating celebrity hair stylist Fadi Fawaz, with whom he was recently spotted on a hotel balcony in Venice.
