CLOONEY TO STAR IN GAY MARRIAGE BAN PLAY

Actor and sex symbol George Clooney is set to star in a one night production of a play about the Proposition 8 ban on same-sex marriage in California.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Clooney has joined the cast of 8, which will be performed in Los Angeles for one night in March next year.

The play, which was first performed in New York in September, was written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk, J. Edgar) and will be directed by Rob Reiner.

Proceeds from the once-off performance will go towards the fight for marriage equality in the United States.

“It is astonishing that gay and lesbian Americans are still treated as second-class citizens,” Clooney said.

“I am confident that, very soon, the laws of this nation will reflect the basic truth that gay and lesbian people – like all human beings – are born equal in dignity and rights.”
