MARVEL CONFIRMS GAY SUPERHERO WEDDING

Marvel has finally confirmed that Northstar will marry his boyfriend Kyle in an upcoming issue of an X-Men comic.

There have been months of speculation about who would tie the knot in the pages of Astonishing X-Men.

On Tuesday, the publisher revealed that, as had been rumoured, it would indeed be Marvel’s first gay wedding.

“The Marvel Universe has always reflected the world outside your window, so we strive to make sure our characters, relationships and stories are grounded in that reality,” Marvel editor-in-chief, Axel Alonso said in a statement.

“We’ve been working on this story for over a year to ensure Northstar and Kyle’s wedding reflects Marvel’s ‘world outside your window’ tradition.”

This week’s 50th issue of Astonishing X-Men, which went on sale today in the U.S., includes Northstar proposing to Kyle.

The following issue, to be on shelves on June 20, will then feature the actual wedding. Marvel has already released the cover of the anticipated edition (above).

While Northstar can fly at superhuman speeds, his long-time boyfriend Kyle has no powers; a fact that has caused a strain in the characters’ relationship.

“Will their path to wedded matrimony in New York City be smooth or are there hidden dangers around the corner?” asked Marvel in its statement.

Comic stores across the U.S. are planning to hold wedding related promotional events in preparation for the big day.

In the meantime, Marvel’s biggest rival DC Comics announced this week that one of its existing major characters is set to come out the closet, although refusing to say who it will be.
