Twilight and The Immortals actor, and Calvin Klein model, Kellan Lutz is set to star in a film about a straight couple hiding their secret love from a predominantly gay world.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lutz and Camilla Belle (Open Road) will star in the independent flick Love Is All You Need?

The film is described as a drama and is set in an alternate world in which homosexuality, not heterosexuality, is the norm.

Lutz will play an aspiring journalist who meets a female university football team star quarterback, to be played by Belle.

They fall in love and try to keep their relationship secret in the face of widespread social antagonism towards heterosexuality. When their affair is made public they become the target of bullies.

The film will be co-written and directed by Kim Rocco Shields, based on her earlier award-winning short film.

According to that film’s website, the full-length version will thrust “its audience into another dimension of existence that does more than just acknowledge there is a serious social problem affecting the gay community and does more than just talk about the issue. In Love Is All You Need? its audience lives the issue.”

The website adds that the characters’ separate stories “connect to each other in unexpected ways as each of them struggle with their own problems in this ‘gay’ world. When you live in a world that hates the way you love, is love really all you need?”

While Lutz has confirmed his involvement in the film, negotiations are being finalised with Belle

Last year, Lutz told The Advocate magazine that his gay fans “are the best”.

“I love them. When I meet gay fans out and about, they’re so great to talk to — and I’m big on hugging, because I’m from the Midwest. They’re just so energetic and loving.

“I’m proud to have those fans, and their support means a lot to me. I don’t want just girls coming to my movies; I want guys to come too,” he said.
